Why use the CATIA V5 to JT Translator

Theorem’s CATIA V5 <> JT translator is designed for companies using CATIA V5 who have selected JT to be their main method of collaboration and communication between themselves and their customers and suppliers. Collaborating using visualization data helps to secure the intellectual property (IP) of the original CATIA V5 3D designs whilst enabling its re-use in downstream activities reducing potential business risks.

JT visualization data supports a rich enough set of design data that suppliers have all of the information required to progress the product design to manufacture and then eventually to market. Using lightweight visualization data helps to simplify the entire process, improving communication and opens access to data and information that previously would only have been available to ‘Engineering’ departments.

Using the CATIA V5 to JT translator

The CATIA V5 <> JT CADverter is a direct database translator between the Dassault Systemes CATIA V5 Modelling Application and the Siemens PLM JT file format.

The product can be licensed as either a single uni-direction product for CATIA V5 to JT or JT to CATIA V5. Alternatively, a bi-directional license package is available which supports both directions of translation, dependent upon requirements.

The CATIA V5 <> JT translator enables the user to convert all forms of 3D Mechanical Design Geometry and Assembly data, together with system defined attribute information and colour information, between these two systems.

The CATIA V5 to JT translator can be used in a variety of ways:
  • This product has been developed using the Dassault Systems CATIA V5 CAA Development Environment and therefore is integrated within an existing licensed CATIA V5 installation.
  • All forms of 3D wireframe, surface and solid geometry as well as assembly structure information is supported for during the translation
  • The translation process can be invoked interactively from within the CATIA V5 standard menu system. Alternatively, the process can be invoked as a batch mode translation, external to the CATIA V5 application.
  • The command line interface allows the process to be integrated into all workflows, including integrating the translator within a document or product lifecycle management system.
  • The CADverter Unified Interface enables casual users to make effective use of the product without needing to remember complex command syntax. Predefined translator configurations that retain selected translator options can also be employed to ensure all users follow company standards for translator settings.

Which version is right for you?

There are three versions of the CATIA V5 to JT translator available which have their own specific benefits:

 

CAA - Translator

This product requires access to an installed license of the CATIA V5 application to run Theorem’s high quality and cost effective CATIA V5 to JT translator. The CAA version  enables the direct translation of CATIA V5 data to the JT format. It enables the translation of the assembly structure, geometry, attributes and, where available, 3D Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) and Metadata between CATIA V5 and JT, but must have access to a license of CATIA V5 to run.

Independent Version

Licenses of vendor-specific CAD applications can be expensive resources to purchase and also to maintain, so it doesn’t help when they are tied up for long periods of time or when there aren’t enough available licenses to be able to multi-task different design projects effectively.

The CATIA V5 Independent version of the CATIA V5 to JT translator is the ideal solution for CATIA V5 users who have to create, consume, or supply native 3D mechanical design data to customers and suppliers when limited resources are available.

Theorem’s CATIA V5 Independent solution helps support collaboration between companies, their customers and suppliers, enabling original 3D mechanical design data to be re-used in downstream activities helping to increase data quality and reduce overall project costs; without needing access to a license of the CATIA V5 application.

Multi-CAD

Multi-CAD enables CATIA V5 users to work interactively with JT data inside of a design session without the need for external translation.

Theorem’s Multi-CAD application is an interactive, low cost and efficient solution to the problems that can be encountered when a CATIA V5 user needs to work on projects where JT data needs to be regularly worked on during a design project.

Multi-CAD maintains the integrity and correct version of the imported data as it comes into CATIA V5 by keeping an associative link back to the source data so that “design in context” can be undertaken without the need for external translation of non CATIA V5 parts and assemblies.

With Multi-CAD, CATIA V5 users are able using standard CATIA commands to select a part or assembly from JT, and insert it as a node on their CATIA V5 design tree; either as a single component or full assembly.
