Attention Bicyclists!
The Delaware Department of Transportation will hold public hearings on the future of bicycling in our state.
It's said the state is only making "token efforts" towards bicyclists. If you don't go to the hearing they'll remain that way!
All of us use well established loops around Dover and our own towns. They should be made more safe and comfortable. Not everyone in DE. has seen a paved shoulder in Delaware, but they actually exist for a few miles and are a pleasure to ride. Make your loop safe and have the shoulder paved!
I don't know how many people saw their favorite roads become a dangerous mess of chips this year. There were quite a few. Even when the chips have become settled every intersection becomes a hazardous place to negotiate because of the leftovers in heaps 6 inches thick.
Why would DelDot schedule these hearings in the winter when most cyclists are isolated from each other? Had this been held in September most cyclists would be in contact with each other and the word would have spread. Ignorance on the part of DelDOT or careful orchestration?
