Maps outlining bicycling routes are available. There are two maps, one for New Castle county in the north and one for Kent and Sussex counties in the south. The roads are color coded by a Suitability classification ranging from Scenic with light traffic to Dangerous.
Delaware Bicycle Route One travels through the length of the state. Not all sections of this route can be considered Scenic, and quite a number of sections are considered Dangerous. The route was chosen as a destination route designed with the goal of getting bicyclists from the top of Delaware to Maryland in the south. However, there are a number of routes off Bike Route One that are either well marked and well known tours like the Amish Country Tour and the Delaware Doublecross. There are also a number of loops suggested by local cyclists, all of which are very pleasant and in general fit either the Scenic or at least the lightly travelled category.
These maps also show where museums, state parks, repair shops, showers, and camping facilities are found. Delaware bicycle laws are presented as well as general touring information. Names and addresses of bicycle clubs & connections (see below) are also included for those looking for more specific information.
